Hub télécom Selects AirWave to Manage 1,600 Node Wifi Network in French Airports, Hotels, and Expo Centers

AirWave Software is Used to Manage Public and Private Hotspots in Paris-Charles de Gaulle and other Airports

San Mateo, CA – December 12, 2006 – AirWave Wireless, the leader in wireless network management and security, announced today that Hub télécom has selected the AirWave Wireless Management Suite software to manage its wireless networks at seven major French airports (including both Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly Airports), nearly 40 hotels and two major exhibition centers.

Hub télécom, part of the Aéroports de Paris group, provides 150,000 professionals daily with wired and wireless network access. The users of the company’s 1,600+ wireless access points include airline companies, airport service companies, passenger service companies and site operators. The AirWave software is installed in Hub télécom’s network operations center, enabling the company’s network engineers to remotely monitor and control the wireless LAN infrastructure via a web-based user interface.

Working with Avirnet, AirWave’s partner in France, Hub télécom selected the AirWave Management Platform™ software because its distributed architecture enables the solution to scale as the Hub télécom network grows. “With the AirWave Master Console, we can monitor our entire wireless network, across dozens of locations, from a single console,” said Luc Vanacker of Hub télécom. “When our network engineers need to diagnose a network problem reported by a user in Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport they can gather all the information they need remotely, with just a few mouseclicks. This helps us meet our service level agreements with our wireless customers,” he added.

AirWave’s flexible monitoring software provides Hub télécom’s engineers with network-wide views of performance and usage, and also allows them to drill down to specific sites (such as a particular hotel or concourse), devices, and even individual users. Because Hub télécom serves multiple customers, it uses AirWave’s software to specify exactly which resources each network engineer should be able to control and to generate custom reports for each customer.

In addition to network and user monitoring, Hub télécom uses the AirWave software to manage and audit the configuration of its WLAN infrastructure. Hub télécom engineers centrally define the security and network policies that should be applied to the Wifi access points in each location. The AirWave software pushes the appropriate settings to each device and audits the network on an ongoing basis to ensure that those settings remain in place at all times.

“One of the major reasons we recommended the AirWave Management Platform software to Hub télécom is its ability to support wireless hardware from multiple leading vendors,” said Jacob Mechaly of Avirnet. “In its multiple locations, the Aéroports de Paris group employs hardware from both Cisco and Symbol. With AirWave software, the network engineers can control this diverse infrastructure from a single console instead of having to use multiple proprietary solutions,” he noted.

“Hub télécom is a true leader among wireless service providers and their commitment to quality and reliability is evident in everything they do,” said AirWave CEO Gary Hegna. “We’re delighted to work with them to ensure that their wireless network is as manageable, reliable, and secure as their wired network infrastructure,” he stated.
